Efficacy of Sudanese isolates of entomopathogenic fungi against the Khapra beetle Trogoderma granarium (Everts) (Coleoptera: Dermestidae)

The current study evaluated the bio-control activity of Sudanese isolates entomopathogenic-fungi against 3rd larval instars Khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) (Everts) in Sudan and morphologically molecularly characterized virulent isolates. Fungi were isolated using Galleria-baiting method tested larvae immersion-technique at concentration 1×107 conidia ml-1. Commercial product, Eco-Bb® was used as standard treatment. Twenty instar immersed 10 ml fungal suspension for five seconds. Control sterilized-distilled water. Dead insects counted daily seven days after inoculation. Microscopic examination cadavers conducted to explain whether or not test organisms caused death larvae. Virulent identified confirmed by molecular techniques Beauveria bassiana isolate Sud-afro.18 (MK046654), Metarhizium anisopliae Dmazeen F1 (MK046658), R1 (MK046659), Albifimbria viridis Shmbat-fo1 (MK046656), Purpureocillium lilacinum Khartoum f1 (MK046655), B. Sud-afro.20 (MK046652), Giddo6RF (MN598664), GiddoR (MN598665), HammadR7,F (MN598666). Mortality induced various ranged from 40.0-90.4% compared 96 7.9% treatment untreated control respectively. LT50 values Sudafro.18 M. DmazeenF1 is comparable that Eco-Bb®.   Key words: Entomopathogenic fungi, identification, biological control, beetle, Sudan.
